Impressionism - Impressionist painting
Galeria de Arte Marpau - information - español

The impressionit painting points out the value of the objective subjects,
but being observed from the angle of the transitory .
The first exhibition of impressionist painters carries out in 1874, but this movement reaches world true resonance starting from the year 1900.
The members of this group, somehow intoxicated sensually by the nature,
they searched a primitive image of the environment.
To achieve this purpose, they escape from the dark color.Leaving the drawing in an sketch way, they try to expresse the fragile quality of the time, of the movement and of the shapes.
The colors are reduced to pure colors, They are broken down analytically in the range of the spectrum. Their purpose is to make us feel the "impression" of a world that it is around us, but that, at the same time, it is always dissapearing around us. They try to obtain a representation of a direct and spontaneous world.
Up to then the painters used to reproduce a setting in which an event occurred. This was the message for the spectator. The impressionist painters want that the work reproduce the visual perception of the painter in an specific moment. They try to capture the light and the real color that emanates of the nature in the instant in which the artist contemplates it.
They seek to deliver in their canvas the effects that
it is produced for the natural light on the objects,
which are not an exact representated in an exact way.
They paint the color that conform the subjects. For them, the forms are composed by colors that vary in function of the atmospheric conditions and of the intensity of the light. This is the reason why they paint series of a same object in different temporary and atmospheric circumstances.
For them the object itself is not important. The chromatic variations that this object suffers along the day was the important subject for them. This way, the impressionists eliminate the meticulous details
and the objects are only suggested.
They use the primary colors (blue, red and yellow) and the complementary ones (orange, green and violet). In their paintigs they offer to us an illusion of the reality by applying directly on the canvas short brushstrokes
full of color and juxtaposed.
Although the conquests of the French impressionism turned out to be decisive for the painting of the S. XX, concepts like those of light and color are found already in the Venetian painting of the middle of the S. XVI. Light effects are also present in works carried out by Hals, Velázquez and Goya. Immediate antecedents are present in painters as John Constable, Turner, Corot and in the school of Barbizón, with its contribution of the painting outdoors.

The main figures of the Impressionism movement were Eduard Manet, Degas, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Morisot, Pisarro and Sisley.
