Born in Rancagua, Chile, in 1909.
In 1929, he was advised by his friend ,the sculptor Samuel Román,to enter to the School of Fine Arts of the University of Chile, to the free courses of drawing.
He was contemporary of noticeable painters as Rotko Matjasic, Israel Roa and August Eguiluz, among others.
He obtained Honor Mention in the
Exposition of the IV Centennial in Valparaíso
In 1939 he participated in the Latin-American Exhibition
of the River Side Museum of new York.
Luis Torterolo carries out landscapes of
Expressionist tendency,
His brushstroke is thick and energetic.
Some of his works are exhibited at the Museum of
Fine Arts of Viña del Mar
and at the Museum of Contemporary Art of
Santiago, Chile.
He died in Santiago, Chile, in 1957.
