For almost seventy years, he was one of the most successful and respectable artist of Valparaiso
His inspiration was always related to this city. The port, the small streets, the bars, the sailors
the fish sellmen, the street-girls and the seagulls are always represented in his paintings.
Victor Castro thought and said many times: "I am not a painter, but sketcher". Certainly, he Was a sketcher, his line was agile and wise, but he was also a great painter. His creativity reached also to the titles of his works: "Valparallá", "Valparacá", "Valparasube", "Valparabaja", "Valparacolor", "Valparaviento", "Valparaballet", "Valpanorama", "Valparaviejo", "Valparajoven", etc. are some of the names of his paintings
Besides the figurative style in his paintings and taking advantage of the suggestions of the spots,he worked the automatism chromatic , the geometric style and the surrealism.
DISTINCTIONS AND EXPOSITIONS. His participation in the plastic life of the country was very active and important, so much in collective as in individual expositions. His paintings of Valparaíso also knew many foreigner countries: Venezuela, Equator, Spain, United States and Germany.
In 1972 the German television filmed a short film titled "Valparaíso and its painting" showing an exposition of his themes of this city that he loved. This short film was extensively shown in Europe and in the United States,
In 1979, he exhibits in Iowa, United States, in the Gallery Bettendorf. In 1982, one of his most representative works of Valparaíso it was selected and donated by the Illustrious local City Hall to the City Hall of Oviedo, Spain, becoming part of the artistic patrimony of the Museum of Fine Arts of this spanish province.
Victor Castro dies the year 2000 at age 93.
