Born in Santiago, Chile, November 23, 1902.
He dies, 1992, in Santiago,Chile, at the same time that it was held an important Exhibition of 85 of his artworks at the Cultural Institute of Providencia, Santiago, Chile.
This way, Jorge Caballero Cristi ended a wide and important artistic labour as a painter. His name is very well known not only in Chile , but also in France,country where he was awarded with the French Art Medal .
He also develpped his artistic career in Italy,Spain and in the United States of America.
Some of his important Exhibitions:
1927: First Exhibition, 80 panels, at the Dittrich and Silberfeld Art Hall in Santiago, Chile.
In 1929 he presents in Paris (France) two panels
at the Independent French Art Hall.
In 1939, some of his works are exhibited in Pittsburgh, USA, at the International Exhibition of Painting that it was held at the New York Riverside Museum .
Also, in 1939, in San Francisco (USA) he exhibited at
the Golden Gate Exhibition .
In 1942 , the Toledo Museum of Ohio (USA) acquired
one of his oils (" La Tempestad") .
En 1932 he was designated Professor of the Fine Art School in Santiago,Chile.He also held a great labour as " Comisario de Exposiciones" and as Director of the Olastic Art Institute.
Among the years 1941 to 1953 he painted almost exclusively to spatula, being these, according to his critics, his more beautiful paintings. In all his works he emphasizes his delicacy and harmony in the composition.
Julio Pairķ, acquaintance Argentine art critic, called him "Painter of Skies and Water". He considered that Jorge Caballero was of all the Chilean painters the one that better reflected the light of Chile. By using ocres, yellow and light blue colors,
his autumnal Andean landscapes are magnificents.
It is for all this that he is considered
as the best Chilean landscape painter of the 20th Century.
